Philip Rathgeb leaves for a Visiting Scholarship at Harvard
Philip Rathgeb (Postdoctoral Fellow/Dept. of Politics and Public Administration) leaves for a visiting scholarship at Harvard University's Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies (CES) on 1 September.
Currently, Philip is working on his research project “When Populism meets Government: The Social Policy Impact of the Radical Right in Europe”. The rise of populist radical right parties (PRRPs) can be witnessed across most European democracies. Political scientists possess powerful theoretical elaborations on the causes of this electoral shift, but they still know very little about its consequences for the largest part of government activity: the welfare state.
By engaging with the impact of PRRPs on social policy reform in European welfare states, Philip’s project will find a perfect fit not only with the faculty of the CES but also with Harvard University’s Weatherhead Research Cluster on Global Populism and Weatherhead Research Cluster on Comparative Inequality and Inclusion. He will stay in Harvard for four months and return to Konstanz in January 2019.
