On 20 and 21 April, the European Institutes of Advanced Study came together virtually in their annual meeting of NetIAS (Network of European Institutes for Advanced Study) to foster cooperation between institutions and initiate new joint projects ranging from the funding programme CAT (Constructive Advanced Thinking) to the network's lecture series (European Lecture Series).

We congratulate Jolle Jolles (Postdoctoral Fellow / Dept. of Biology) who has accepted a position as independent postdoctorate researcher at the Centre for Research on Ecology and Forestry Applications (CREAF) in Cerdanyola del Vallès, Spain.
In the Assembly of Members on 9 February, the fellows reelected Nihan Toprakkiran (Postdoctoral Fellow/Politics and Public Administration) and Henri Kauhanen (Postdoctoral Fellow/Linguistics) to serve for a second term of office as members in the Executive Committee.
The COVID 19 pandemic also poses major challenges and new questions for science. The Volkswagen Foundation responded to it with its "Corona Crisis and Beyond" funding programme, providing support to researchers of all disciplines.
The Zukunftskolleg is pleased to announce a new call for Zukunftskolleg Konnect (ZUKOnnect) Fellowships. The ZUKOnnect Fellowships support early career researchers from Africa, Asia and Latin America related to one of the thirteen departments of the University of Konstanz. Application deadline is 24 February 2021.
Abena is one of five new Postdoctoral Fellows from the 14th call for applications. She has started her fellowship digitally in September and now could join the Zukunftskolleg in person. Abena is affiliated with the Department of Literature.

Thomas Böttcher has been a Research Fellow at the Zukunftskolleg and junior research group leader at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Konstanz since 2014. In October 2020 he was appointed as Professor for Microbial Biochemistry at the University of Vienna. We spoke with him about his experiences in Konstanz, his advice for the German university landscape and his plans for Vienna.
