Visiting Fellowships at the Zukunftskolleg

Following our 5i strategy - international, intergenerational, independent, interdisciplinary, intra-university - we regularly offer research stays of up to 4 months to international early career researchers who are visiting the departments at the University of Konstanz and who are interested in interdisciplinary collaboration and the inspirational mind-set of the Zukunftskolleg during their on-site time in Konstanz.

The next call for application will probably open in the summer semester 2025.

 

Benefits for the ZUKO Visiting Fellows

  • Access to events organised by the Zukunftskolleg during the on-site visit;
  • The opportunity to present your research work to an interdisciplinary community at the Zukunftskolleg’s weekly Jour fixe;
  • Interaction with a lively English-speaking international community of peers and support with contacting other researchers in your area of research;
  • Shared work space at the Zukunftskolleg (subject to availability);
  • Finances: research allowance of 200€ per month to reimburse travel costs or research consumables, no employment contract;
  • Public display of your affiliation to the Zukunftskolleg on our website and a certificate confirming your affiliation to the Zukunftskolleg.

Obligations for the ZUKO Visiting Fellows

  • Reside in Konstanz or nearby throughout the Research Visit (supported by your host);
  • Participation in the weekly Jour Fixe;
  • Contribute actively to interdisciplinary dialogue at the Zukunftskolleg;
  • Engage with fellows and researchers in relevant departments at the University of Konstanz;
  • Acknowledge Zukunftskolleg support in any publications resulting from the stay;
  • A short report on your activities and expected achievements (within 6 months of completing your participation).

Eligibility of potential candidates

  • early career researchers (max. 7 years after PhD) employed by an institution outside Germany;
  • Visiting the University of Konstanz after a competitive selection process and being funded by external sources (e.g. DAAD, home institution, foundations, …);
  • Open to all departments and subject areas at the University of Konstanz with a preference to those working on an interdisciplinary project.

Nomination

Candidates have to be nominated by their academic host. Please submit the documents in English as a single PDF file including the following materials:

  • Cover page: Name, home institution, funding source of the visiting researcher, period of on-site stay at the University of Konstanz, title of research project and abstract;
  • Nomination letter by the academic host explaining why an affiliation to the Zukunftskolleg would be a beneficial add-on to the research project as well as fitting into the time plan of the candidate during the scheduled visit in Konstanz (1 page max);
  • Motivation letter by the candidate how to benefit and contribute personally to the ZUKO community, referring also to current fellows of special interest (1 page max), CV (3 pages max) and copy of PhD diploma by the candidate.

The Zukunftskolleg is open to host up to 5 Visiting Fellows per semester during the lecture period (mid Oct – mid Feb or mid April – mid July)

The selection will be taken by the Executive Committee of the Zukunftskolleg.
