Lavi Israel Kasongo (Artist), who presented within the framework of our “Racism in Academia” event series his work titled RACIAL CONTENTIONS IN VIEW: An art exhibition on racism

Racial contentions, primarily fuelled by inequalities has intoxicated a world of peace and tranquillity. Although ideas about human differences on the basis of colour and phenotypic characteristics already occurred in earlier societies, racial contentions today have degenerated to threaten global peace. ‘Race’ however, is a mere social construction invented by people and like all other social constructs, they can be deconstructed. In this exhibition, Mr. Lavi Kasongo uses paintings to appeal to the sensory organs to portray racism and racial inequalities in Brazil. His works reveal how racism plays out in everyday life from the personal level to the national and global levels.
