The Welcome Centre organises German language courses at different levels so you can feel more at ease with the German language in social settings.

Please note: only University of Konstanz members and their partners can attend the language courses offered by the Welcome Centre.

Who can participate in the Welcome Centre courses?

International researchers at the University of Konstanz. This includes the following groups:

  • PhD students
  • Guest-PhD students
  •  Research Students ("Research Interns")
  • PostDocs
  • Professors
  • Guest Researchers
  • Spouses of these groups

The courses are not open to external participants!

How much does a German course cost?

  • 160 €/course for (visiting) doctoral students & research students
  • 220 €/course for postdocs, professors & visiting researchers
  • 240 €/course for spouses of the above groups

What are the terms of cancellation?

The course fees are solely used to cover the teachers’ fees. Unfortunately we have to use strict terms of cancellation since the courses have to be self-financing. Thank you for your understanding.

You can only resign from your registration free of charge until registration deadline on March 31st.

Courses can be cancelled within the first week after the course has started. A cancellation fee (50% of the participation fee) will be charged. A later cancellation is not possible: In this case the whole participation fee will be charged.

How do I pay the course fee?

You will receive information on payment of the course fees shortly before the start of the course - as soon as you can be guaranteed a place on the course you have selected.

We reserve the right to cancel courses if there are too few registrations.

How often do the German courses take place?

The courses always take place during the semester. This means that they start in April (summer semester) and October (winter semester).

Around one month before the courses start, registration is possible on this website.

How do I know when the registration for the next semester will be open?

If you are on the mailing list of the Welcome Centre of the University of Konstanz, you will be notified automatically when the registration and the new course programme go online.

Important information

The German courses of the University of Konstanz are not accepted as proof of language skills for the Immigration Office. The Immigration Office only accepts proof from recognized certification institutions.
