The Rectorate manages the university. Its responsibilities include the structural and development planning, handling the strategies and fundamental matters relating to international relations, planning campus construction projects, preparing and implementing the university budget, proposals relating to research, teaching and institutional structures, and arranging for evaluation measures and quality assurance.
The Senate decides on matters relating to research, teaching, study and education and training. It is responsible, among other things, for electing the vice rectors, approving structure and development plans, deciding on appointment recommendations, the university constitution and any amendments, taking a position on the establishment of collaborative research areas, research training groups and young researcher groups.
The University Council guides the university, takes on responsibility for strategic considerations and decides on plans relating to structure and development. It also proposes measures that serve to enhance the university’s profile and further develop the university’s performance and competitive capacities. The university council also supervises the management of the Rectorate.
Four staff units at the University of Konstanz are responsible for Communications and Marketing, Data protection, Quality Management, Occupational Safety, Health and Environmental Protection and Sustainability.
Besides the Rectorate, Senate and University Council, the university bodies at the University of Konstanz also include the university committees as well as the faculty - departmental bodies.
The university administration is comprised of seven sections.
The central institutions of the University of Konstanz are the Communications, Information, Media Centre (KIM), the Language Institute (SLI) and the Animal Research Facility (TFA).
