Research-oriented and innovative – teaching at the University of Konstanz

Research-oriented teaching means: Our students learn from the latest research findings, benefit from close links between cutting-edge research and teaching and engage in their own independent scientific work early on.

Innovative teaching means: We test out new methods together in the classroom, collaborate across the disciplines, use a variety of formats involving direct exchange as well as advise and support students throughout their studies.

Digitalization

Digital teaching formats enable us to: Increase the individualization, flexibility and internationalization of teaching and learning, digitally enhance on-campus classes and to expand available courses to include synchronous and asynchronous online formats.

We teach digital competencies: In subject-specific and multidisciplinary courses we cover aspects of digital transformation, and we offer the Advanced Data and Information Literacy Track (ADILT) programme for students in any subject.

Transfer

Transfer-oriented teaching means: Teachers, students and external partners jointly design teaching projects. Questions from civil society, research interests of the teachers and concerns of the students thus provide the basis for dialogue-oriented learning processes.

Our transfer-oriented teaching enables our students to: Develop and work on new research questions, engage with socially relevant issues, develop new perspectives on their own knowledge and experiences, communicate with external partners and take on responsibility in a group context.

Internationalization

Internationally-oriented teaching means: Changing perspectives and thinking globally, promoting opportunities for students to go abroad, learning from and with international students, fostering and expanding our double degree programmes, recruiting international guest lecturers, hosting international co-teaching formats, teaching in multiple languages.

The internationalization of our study programmes promotes: Teaching and learning in a culturally diverse environment, the ability to navigate intercultural situations, taking on social responsibility in international collaborations, preparation for a globalized work environment, as well as support for refugees interested in studying.
