If you want to begin a second bachelor’s degree programme after completing your studies at a German university, the you will be applying for second degree studies.
For second degree studies in Baden-Württemberg beginning in the Winter Semester 2017/18, you will be required to pay 650 euros per semester. Here you will find more information.
You should generally follow the application guidelines for first-year students. We explain the differences on this page.
How do I apply for second degree studies?
In addition to the documents listed in the guide, please upload the following documents in your application:
- a certified copy of your examination certificate from your completed first degree studies
- a written explanation of your motivation to take up second degree studies
Important!
In order to be admitted to second degree studies, your first academic degree (e.g. Bachelor) must be completed by 15 July.
How many second degree study programmes can I apply for?
You can only apply for one second degree study programme.
How does the selection process work?
In study programmes with admission restrictions, two percent of the admission space is offered to second degree applicants. If there are more applicants than we can accept, a selection process will take place. For this purpose, a ranking list of all applications is created. The ranking is based on two point values:
1. Your first degree grades
Excellent or very good: 4 points
Good or fully satisfactory: 3 points
Satisfactory: 2 points
Sufficient: 1 point
Grade not documented: 1 point
2. Reasons for taking up second degree studies
Academic reasons: 7-11 points
Urgent professional reasons: 9 points
Special professional reasons: 7 points
Other professional reasons: 4 points
Other reasons: 1 point
If, after a family-related break, you are interested in pursuing a second degree in order to re-enter or get a fresh start in professional life, the University of Konstanz can award you up to 2 additional points.
Explanations of the individual reasons and how they are weighted can be found in the Richtlinien der Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung (guidelines of the University Admissions Foundation).
