Questions of good scientific practice have gained more importance and attention than almost any other aspect of scientific work. This applies within the sciences and the scientific system as well as outside in politics, the media and public.
As centres of research, teaching and the promotion of young researchers, universities have a responsibility to society to uphold high scientific and ethical standards.
It is the declared aim of the University of Konstanz to promote a university culture that is based on partnership-based behaviour and fair competition – this forms the groundwork for successful work in teaching, research and administration and is also an important factor in preventing academic misconduct.
In addition to existing legal regulations on good scientific practice, the University of Konstanz has adopted respective guidelines to ensure good scientific practice for its area of responsibility as well as the statutes to ensure good scientific practice and dealing with scientific misconduct at the University of Konstanz. These reflect the university consensus on the fundamental principles and standards of good scientific practice and are supported by all university members and staff. The statutes support all university members and staff in behaving honestly in their day-to-day research by anchoring good scientific practice as a fixed and binding component of research and the qualification of young scientists.
