The “Leadership, Management, Science Communication and Knowledge Transfer Certificate” of the University of Konstanz enables you to deepen your leadership and management competences and includes an official record of your skills in this area which are relevant for your future career both inside and outside academia.
Conditions
Participation in this certificate programme is available exclusively to doctoral researchers and to researchers at the University of Konstanz who have already earned their doctorate (post-doctoral researchers, HabilitandInnen, junior professors etc.). The module-based programme can be customised to fit individual preferences and completed within one year. However, there is no time limit. A limited number of places are available each semester.
If you have already attended ASD events that can be counted toward the certificate, please send the certificates of participation to zertifikat@uni-konstanz.de.
Please note: The conditions of participation of Academic Staff Development apply to the participation in the individual workshops within the certificate program.
Quality standards
The quality standards that apply to Academic Staff Development events also apply to all modules that are taught as part of the “Leadership, Management, Science Communication and Knowledge Transfer Certificate” programme.
The quality standards of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Hochschuldidaktik apply to all university didactics events that count towards the certificate.
The certificate consists of a reflection of competencies and four successive modules with workshops on leadership, management, science communication and knowledge transfer as well as related topics for an individual focus. The certificate includes a total of 70 work units (AE).
Reflection of Competencies
The competence analysis consists of two elements:
Within the ILIAS self-study module „Reflection of competencies“ you have the opportunity to reflect on your interdisciplinary competences acquired in science The results of the reflection of competencies will help you customise your certificate programme to fit your continuing education needs. The reflection of competencies is a mandatory part of the certificate (6AE).
The workshop "Competence profile meets requirements profile" deals with the question of how you can use your competences to meet the requirements of your target careers. The convincing presentation of your competencies in the application process is also a topic of this workshop. The workshop "Competence Profile meets Requirement Profile" builds on the ILIAS self-study module "Reflection of competencies" and appears as an additional achievement (with 4 AE) in the Transcript of Records. Participation in the workshop is not mandatory to obtain the certificate.

Module I: Leadership
Leading employees both inside and outside the university - be it as a group leader or as a project manager - is one of a researcher’s central responsibilities, whether at post-doctoral level or higher. In this module, we place a special focus on the responsibilities and challenges associated with your (future) leading role. The leadership training of this module is tailored to our respective target group (doctoral researchers and post-docs) and their individual requirements.

Module II: Management
As a researcher, you are expected to take on managerial responsibilities, for instance when coordinating your own projects or those of your team. Our management training focuses on acquiring various techniques for coordinating projects successfully. The management seminar is tailored to our respective target groups (doctoral researchers and post-docs) and their individual requirements.

Modul III: Knowledge transfer
Being able to present and convey content well is an important skill to have, both when working at the university (e.g. in lecturing, teaching or science communication) and when working outside the university (e.g. when presenting project results or moderating working meetings). The subject area of science communication and transfer includes events that promote competencies in the area of science communication, cover the area of university didactic knowledge transfer or include basic presentation and communication techniques.
